One of the worst sins

March 31, 2009

Rav Acha the son of Rav Huna is quoted in the Gemora in Berochos 32A in the name of Rav Shashes that overeating is from the worst sins, since it causes arrogance and disregard to Hashem C”V, as it says in the verse in the Novi ‘כמרעיתם וישבעו שבעו וירם לבם על כן שכחוני’.

Slacking in Battle?

March 31, 2009

We are in the midst of a pitched battle for the redemption. Every Mitzva, word of Torah and Prayer, are tremendous weapons in our favor! Let’s give it our best and win the war.

Thanking Hashem

March 30, 2009

Everything that happens is from Hashem, everything that Hashem does is for the very best. When we thank Hashem for our troubles, they disappear.
I once accidently poured boiling water on my hand. While I washed my hand in cold water, I thanked Hashem for the burn. Miraculously, the burn completely disappeared. Not only it didn’t hurt, it didn’t even leave a mark.

Worry = Trouble

חרדת אדם יתן מוקש ובוטח בה’ ישוגב (משלי כ “ט)

A person worries create his problems, and whoever trusts Hashem will be safe.

Put you load on Hashem

השלך על ה’ יהבך
The Gemora in Megilla 18A explains in the name of Raba bar bar Chana that it means to let Hashem carry all your troubles.

Ability to live in Eretz Yisroel

March 27, 2009

The Gemora in Megilla 12A says in the name of Rova.  There is a contradiction in one place it says that Golus Bovel will finish after 70 years of Bovel’s rule, and in the other place it says that 70 years are counted from the destruction of the Beis Hamikdosh. Rova answers that after 70 years they will be remembered. Rashi explains that at that time they received permission to settle in Eretz Yisroel. I think that our current situation is similar. As the Golus is coming to an end, we are remembered, and we are able to live in Eretz Yisroel.

Everybody will praise Hashem

March 26, 2009

הללו את ה’ כל גוים… כי גבר עלינו חסדו
R’ Yishmoel Bar R’ Yossi is brought down in Pesachim 118B explaining in the name of his father what it means; At the time of redemption all the nations will praise Hashem for the miracles that He did with klal yisroel. Since they know everything that they were planning to do to us that didn’t materialize. So much more so klal yisroel will praise Hashem because we benefited from His great kindness.

How could we be so silly?

March 26, 2009

Why do we think that things should be different?
Why do we think that we know better than Hashem?

(From my wife)

Klal Yisroel Relies Only on Hashem

March 25, 2009

Rabbeinu Bechai in parshas Vayechi writes that the reason Yehuda’s berocho does not have the letter ‘ז’, because the kingdom of klal yisroel which comes from Yehuda does not rely on Klei Zayin (weapons). We only rely on Hashem’s providence.

The Gemora in Bava Kama 47B says in the name of Rav that if fruits were placed in front of an animal and the animal overeats and got sick, the owner of the fruits is not obligated to pay for healing the animal, because the animal should’ve not eaten. We see that even an animal is expected to have sense not to overeat.
